Gatsby, As you like it and Other Texts

Gatsby, As you like it and Other TextsMany students use Gatsby, As you like it, and other authors' works as study guides for a Gatsby or Psychoanalysis essay. You could also use these materials to help you craft your own; it will make the process much easier for you if you have a good idea of the way to approach the essay.I often ask students to submit essay topics for me to read before I select a Gatsby, As you like it, or any other author's material for an essay. Students typically send me about a dozen topics to read, although they don't always read the same ones! I'm still learning all the time, so each one will likely be different.Let's take a look at some of the topics I send students to write about. First up is Emily Dickinson. Her poems can offer insights into her life, both of the artistic and spiritual variety. The secrets revealed in the poems can be easily applied to the Gatsby phenomenon.Next up is James Rolfe. He is perhaps the most well-known psychoanalyst of the Roman tic era. His writing was often based on his experiences working with more unconventional types. In As you like it, one of the characters mentions James Rolfe by name.Of course, there are many more sources. By simply going through the works of other writers, you can get a pretty good feel for what themes and techniques are present in their work. Once you're familiar with that material, it will be easier to apply the ideas learned to the genre of psychoanalysis. The process is less about choosing the specific source material and more about developing your own interpretation. The first step in the process is choosing a topic for your Gatsby, As you like it, or any other analysis essay. You should go with a topic that has a connection to your choice of writer. If you choose a writer who influenced you when you were younger, then the topic should have some relevance to the style of writing that you're most comfortable with. You should also be aware of the school culture and contemporary cu ltural trends. Will we soon be living in a completely different society? Is there any evidence of this happening? This will play a huge role in how the issues discussed are interpreted in your work. After you've narrowed down your choices of the great Gatsby, As you like it, and other works, you can start to really consider the theme you've chosen for your work. If you want to make sure your interpretation will hold up in class, then you may want to take a look at the works of other writers. Otherwise, don't be afraid to take a stab at interpreting the material yourself.
